What happened that was so important a few days ago for mobility and sustainability in Italy?
With the publication in the Official Journal of 26 May 2021, the Minister of Ecological Transition, in concert with the Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility (attention, this is the first time in Italy that we have the word "sustainable mobility" in a Ministry) issued the implementing provisions for the figure of the Mobility Manager. But be careful: this figure has already existed since 2001, but the companies that have adopted it in Italy are still very few (previously the threshold of employees per work unit was 300 but with Legislative Decree 34 of 19/5/2020 the threshold has been lowered to 100).
Those who read my articles every now and then know that I always repeat that sustainability must start from the bottom, especially if we want to maintain the ambitious objective of reducing emissions by at least 55% by 2030, so the arduous task of the Mobility Manager will be to to draw up a Home-Work Travel Plan (PSCL) and encourage the use of car pooling, car sharing and cycle/pedestrian paths to allow employees to go to work while consuming as little CO2 as possible. On the other hand, the company will have to incentivize this good practice since from the virtuous behavior of its employees it will pay a lower amount at the end of the year to offset its carbon footprint and will receive a higher ESG rating.
As you can see, I have shown you once again that if sustainability starts from the bottom then it reaches very high peaks and everyone benefits . Of course, the "sustainable" company must set a good example and must share the sustainability project with all its employees and the first two things to do are:
- Training the Mobility Manager , and fortunately for some years in Italy there has been the AITMM association which contributes to the training of these very professional figures
- Incentivize all employees on the path towards sustainability
This is just a short article to keep you informed on the latest news on the subject, but the topic is very varied and complex and there are many actors involved, so I will return to the topic shortly with more detailed information .
Thanks as always for reading these reflections of mine.
