Since opening in 1987, Tongsai Bay has established itself as the premier family-run hotel on the tropical island of Koh Samui, Thailand. Nestled among 28 and a half acres of breathtaking natural beauty and nestled in a private cove, the hotel is renowned for its privacy and tranquility, its passionate love of the environment and, last but not least, the friendliness of its staff .

To better highlight who and what we are, below you will find our key points to help you get to know us a little better.

Private Cove : Our cove is private and completely free of beach vendors. We offer complimentary non-motorized water sports – kayaks, windsurfing, hobbies, stand up paddle boards and snorkeling equipment.

Please note that to keep the peace and preserve the bay for swimming, we do not offer motorized water sports.

Location : The only private bay 10 minutes from Chaweng Beach, 10 minutes from Fisherman's Village and 10 minutes from the airport.

Nature : 28 1/2 acres of lush green natural landscaping wrap around our hillside overlooking the bay, which is home to over 66 different bird species.

Green : We really strive to be greener and follow a green policy covering 6 main areas and even produce our own effective microorganism (EM) from the fruits we use as natural cleaners in our rooms.

Space : Our design embraces space – with only 83 rooms we are not a hotel designed for revenue per square metre. We have large land spaces and balconies for all guests to enjoy the beautiful views from.

Sea View : All rooms have sea views, all have outdoor bathtubs except for the 8 beach suites on the ground floor.

Heart and Soul : A family-run hotel with over 20 employees who have worked here for over 20 years and offer personalized yet discreet service.

Swimming : We do not offer motorized water sports, so our bay is perfect for swimming. There are also 2 swimming pools, one of which is specific for those seeking peace and tranquility and welcomes adults and young adults aged 14 and over.

Small conveniences : WiFi in all rooms and public areas and free chilled drinking water in restaurants, bars, pools and the beach.

CHEF CHOM'S Thai Restaurant

It is named after Chef Piengchom Dhadahbanand, who was previously a chef to the Thai Royal family and has trained over 500 chefs over his illustrious career.

After many years at The Tongsai Bay, he passed down the skills of traditional Thai cooking to the current kitchen brigade led by Sous Chef Nancy.

Geographically, Thais generally divide Thailand into four distinct regions: North (Nua), North East (Issarn), Central (Klang) and South (Dtai).

The diversity of climate and topography from the temperate north to the tropical south is vast and thus the abundance of produce leads to distinct styles and flavors in each region. Chef Chom's goal is to offer authentic traditional Thai cuisine, using the highest quality ingredients and presented in an eclectic style that draws on flavors from across Thailand.

The Butlers

Tongsai Bay has added a new dining experience to complement the relaxed atmosphere of Po Lad Beach Bistro & Bar and the delicious, authentic Thai cuisine available every evening at Chef Chom's Thai restaurant.

Guests can tantalize their taste buds with a delicious selection of Asian tapas-inspired dishes, expertly prepared by Michelin chef Eak. A selection of carefully selected wines that complement each dish are also offered.

The restaurant is open every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7pm and offers guests a casual, welcoming and memorable dining experience. The Butler is aimed at adults, although older children are welcome.

The small restaurant caters for just 20 guests per evening, so it is advisable to book in advance.

Private Dining

There is no better way to dine than privately by candlelight with a Chef and waiter on hand to create the most memorable evenings. Our Events team will ask you for the minimum of your time to work on the organization of the evening, selecting the specially prepared private menus.

All you need to do is choose a corner of paradise where our staff will set up the mise en place... be it a corner of the beach, the balcony of your villa or the Thai gazebo overlooking the bay.

Among the various proposals, Tongsai has decided to let you get a little more into the heart of Thai traditions.

Cooking Class

Thai food is renowned for the use of fragrant herbs and spices. Cooking most Thai dishes begins with the preparation of all the ingredients followed by the widely used method of rapid cooking at high heat.

The Tongsai cooking class is led by our Senior Thai Chefs as we believe there is no better way to understand the properties of Thai cuisine than from people who were born and raised eating it and now also cooking it daily.

Just 3 minutes from the resort is our organic garden where our gardening team grows a variety of produce used in our restaurants. Walk with our Chefs as they explain the different uses of fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices and gather what is seasonally available to prepare your recipe.

Upon returning to the resort, the cooking class begins with a demonstration of how to make curry paste from scratch for those who are truly adventurous and want to recreate it at home.

The Chef will guide you step-by-step through the steps of preparing a 4-course Thai meal including a curry.

The most important factor of all in Thai cuisine is the balance of 4 areas: spice, salt, acid and sweet. Our chefs will explain to you how to balance these aspects and at the end of the lesson, you can taste what you have cooked at our Chef Chom restaurant. For those who have cooked alone it will be possible to bring a guest.

Yoga class

While on holiday in Tongsai, why not join one of Samui's “3 Yoga Brothers” such as Khun Sanya, Khun Bawo or Khun Sakdar.

The class welcomes both beginners and experts, accepts a maximum of 10 participants and lasts one hour. It is possible to request private lessons.

Cinema under the stars

Stars, sand, popcorn and a movie: it's not your traditional movie night, but what many remember as a special vacation moment. Between weekly films, latest releases and classics, lie back on a lounger or laze on traditional Thai cushions and bean bags.

To remind you that you are in Thailand, free popcorn is offered in both options: chili and butter.

If you'd like to enjoy a drink or two, our bar staff are available... a perfect way to enjoy a Tongsai-style movie.

If the weather is unfavorable, we may not be able to proceed with the evening's film. Reservations are not mandatory, just walk around and join the beach in the evening.

Fruit carving class

It's almost impossible to miss either of these two characters at breakfast when passing by the fruit and juice station.

Khun Pu and Khun Jee have worked together for 44 years at Tongsai Bay and specialize in fruit and vegetable processing, salad, fruit juice, Thai cold foods and of course fruit carving.

From flower centerpieces to plate garnishes, they can teach you stunning creations to impress friends, family or add a special touch to a dinner.

Basic level Thai culture and Thai language class

Discover Thai family values, Buddhism, traditions and basic Thai language in a day at our gala hall.

Reservations are required as the class can take a maximum of 8 people.
